Lunch Talk: Speculative Design and Future Prototyping!

September 9, 2018

Last week, we had another lunch talk at our office. Our colleague Michael talked about „Speculative Design and Future Prototyping“.

He introduced Paul Neeley of Neeley Worldwide and his understanding of Speculative Design as a discipline that seeks to help us understand anew our current state through the design of future products and services. Neeley understands this practice as a way to expand our understanding of what is possible, make tangible these futures, build empathy for our futures selves and others, and to interrogate the future that these products and services exist in. More on Neeley on his website.

The insights gained in this process can be fed directly into the development of product strategies. Find out more on strategy development with FLUID and our services "Innovation & Strategies"

Michael also recommended a book called „Speculative Everything“, written by Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby. In contrast to todays focus on making technology easy to use, sexy and consumable, the authors propose a kind of design that is used as a tool to create not only things but ideas & possible futures.
